I have a handful of friends who've moved to my hometown from Nigeria, and they're the strongest women I know. Some of them have experienced horrific things, and others have taken their mother's lessons to heart.

I am always stunned by their perspective on romantic relationships and the way they encourage me to never settle. As women, we have to uplift and protect each other from falling into abusive patterns - or just falling into relationships with people who don't respect us. I have learned so much from them and am ever thankful for that.
