I think the truth of the matter is that women (and men, honestly) are not as picky as everyone is lead to believe.

I also think we tend to forget that physical attraction isn't just about the way you look. It can also be about the faces you make, your mannerisms, the way you carry yourself, etc. It all adds to how we perceive someone.

So even if we're having a hard day, and don't necessarily like what we see in the mirror--we all have to remember that attraction is a lot more complex than that. :)
