I'll never forget the time my (much older) manager informed me that we "don't bother inviting boyfriends and husbands to the Christmas party." And she gave me this kind of smirk and said "But of course we have to go to theirs. You know how it is."

I, in fact, did not know "how it is." I truly had no idea what she meant by that. But as I've gotten older, I do now.
