This is exactly it. America is tearing itself apart from the inside out. And even still, many people try to pin acts of violence on some "other" group. That habit hasn't died.

When domestic terrorism/mass shootings/etc occur, it's always speculated that someone did it because they're from "that" religion, or "that" political alignment, or "that" race. Something that separates the perpetrator from the on-lookers.

When in reality, it's usually just another American who did something horrific and extreme. It was someone's sibling/child/friend who's family members say they "never would have thought he/she would do that."

So many people want to believe that only "bad guys" can do these things. It's a comforting conclusion. But it's not the right one. And that mindset is only fueling the fire.
